Evaluation Question 5

How did you attract/address your audience?
My target audience spans from teenagers from the age of 16 up to people of the age of 24. With this in mind i have laid out and designed my magazine to suit the needs of this particular mainstream audience to ensure it becomes appealing to them and therefore would be successful in magazine industry. My target audience is of both genders but i have designed it maybe to be of a more male feel to it. I feel it may be primarily male due to the style and genre of the music. On the other hand though i feel i could attract females as i have a male on the front cover which may in turn mean that females like him and want to find out more about the male artist in the magazine, this would ensure they would buy it. In difference to this i feel that the male artist could act as an inspiration for men as they could aspire to look and be like him as he is seen to cool in this area of music. They may aspire to be like him as they are interested and take a liking to his clothing that he is wearing on the cover. I also believe that the colours of the magazine would attract makes to the buy it as they are quite manly colours such as black and white and i think they would be an aesthetically pleasing to a male as they co-ordinate well the photo and also make it look very stylish. On my front cover i made sure that i included both male and female artist that were featured in my magazine, again to ensure that i appealed to both genders. I have chosen a mixture of British artists but also a section of worldwide artists to use on my cover lines, i have done this in order to attract not only British people but to appeal to a wider audience. I also did this as a lot of the big superstars come from America etc. and those are the artists who appeal to my target audience. I also believe that my audience would prefer to see the American artists live and at a big venue than going to see a smaller British band. Throughout my magazine I made sure that i included festivals such as V and wireless. I chose these two festivals as i felt these were the most suited to my target audience. I feel if i had of put festivals such as Glastonbury and Leeds and reading i could have disengaged my audience as i don't think they would have been majorly interested in these types of festivals, this is why i decided to go down the V and Wireless route. I designed my contents page to suit the style of my audience as the content is brief in its description in what is available inside the magazine and so I did this as i believe that my audience would prefer this style other than a contents page with lots of information on it. I also think that the style of music I am aiming for is shown in the contents page. The language register i decided to use in my magazine was formal language as I wanted the magazine to look classy and more than anything sophisticated  this therefore meant no spelling mistakes were acceptable also i didn't want any incorrect grammar or an slang involved in my contents. I feel that the picture would be attractive to them as the artists are young and successful who they would aspire to be like. The fact that many of my features gives the reader an insight in to some of their favourite artists is a feature that I feel would attract my audience. An example of this is the interview with Justin Timberlake that is featured inside my magazine.

I feel that my double page spread would defiantly appeal to my target audience as the photo contains my male artist putting on a slightly cocky and fun upbeat pose which i feel sums the mainstream genre of music up perfectly. I also feel as if the way my artist is dressed shows that he is mainstream and would appeal to my audience. I think that the audience would be interested in what the artist has to say and so would want to read the interview. The interview is there to give the readership of my magazine a very close insight into the artist and to kind of make the audience and the artist more attached. I decided to use a question and answer format opposed to a article type text due to the fact that i felt this question and answer format was more fun and appealing than an article. Also i took into consideration the time it would take to read the article and i felt it would be quicker to read an interview. Overall i feel i have really considered my audience whilst constructing my magazine in every stage. I feel the overall product would be attractive to them and ensure the magazine would be successful due to this. I think my audience profile helped me a lot to be able to achieve this and I also focused a lot on how my artist would be represented to the audience and how that would fit in with my magazine.
