Analysis of Institution- Bauer Media Group

Bauer Media Group

Bauer Media Group is a multinational media company headquartered in Hamburg, Germany which operates in 15 countries worldwide. Since the company was founded in 1875, it has been privately owned and under management by the Bauer family.

Bauer Verlagsgruppe has been managed by four generations of the Bauer family. Originally a small printing house, The Bauer Publishing Group has grown into a worldwide publishing and media company. The Bauer Publishing Group comprises 282 magazines worldwide in 15 countries, as well as TV and radio stations. Bauer started in the UK with the launch of Bella magazine in 1987 and as H Bauer Publishing became Britain's third largest publisher. Bauer further expanded in the UK with the purchase of Emap Consumer Media and Emap Radio in 2008 to become the UK's biggest publishing group.

H Bauer brands include women's weekly and TV listings magazines; namely Bella, Take a Break, that's life! TV Choice and Total TVGuide as well as a number of puzzle magazines. Other Bauer brands consist of Q Magazine which started out as a music magazine published monthly in the UK. As the Q magazine started to increase in size and popularity Bauer Media took it over whilst the magazine was in the process of being displayed via different sources of media such as Q TV and Q Radio. Another large magazine that now belongs to the Bauer company is that of Kerrang, these two magazines are leaders in their genres, so this in turn means that Bauer continues to expand and still remain one of the largest publishers in the UK.

But why have i chosen Bauer specifically for my magazine?

As this particular institution is so well known and successful in what it does i felt as if my magazine 'Fresh' would have the best chance of being a successful magazine in the near future. Also another factor that has persuaded me to choose Bauer is the fact that i feel they will maximize the publicity of my magazine through all other forms of media as they can, this should then ensure that 'Fresh Echo' gains a large readership in the UK and maybe in the distant future across countries throughout Europe.

But why would they publish my magazine?

I plan for my magazine to be aimed at a wide target audience largely formed of mainstream music fans who are enthusiasts about the newest and biggest chart topping songs. The age range i aim to target is in the region of 16 to 26. I feel as this range is fairly large this will ensure that there is something for everyone in the mag so in turn this should maximize possible sales of the magazine, which Bauer will be really pleased about. I also feel there is a gap in the market at the current time due to the fact that my mag will be mainstream but with a slight variation of hip/hop Pop which at the moment there doesn't seem to be a magazine that offers this. Again this should encourage Bauer to publish my mag due to the fact there is not much competition in this area which in turn will mean the magazine is more likely to succeed due to the fact that readership will not be shared with competitors, for example like the Rock/Indie magazine market there is two main competitors in NME and Kerrang who are forced to share there readership with the other. Also with the genre Mainstream Pop/ Hip Hop it is a very well known genre so Bauer will not have to fear the risk of the genre not catching on.
